Our Riesling is inspired by the great wines of Alsace, and it more than lives up to that inspiration.
Riesling is the queen of grapes. It demands a specific type of poor, stony soil, and it reflects that terroir with remarkable transparency. With Spioenkop’s ferricrete-rich topsoil and clay subsoil, which retains moisture during the dry summer months, our Riesling is defined by racy minerality, vibrant acidity and a bone-dry finish.
To counter the effects of a warming climate, all the vines are planted on south- and south-east-facing slopes, protecting the grapes from the hottest afternoon sun and preserving freshness and elegance in the wine.
We work with two different clones: the French WR239 and the Australian WR110. Together, they create a unique South African expression of this noble variety :-)
