The Johanna Brandt is a single block Chenin, the lower part of the block which is on shale. It is the rounder, more powerful of the two Spioenkop Chenin Blanc wines, and has a slightly more tropical fruit profile, still with nice acidity.

The story behind the name: When Pretoria was conquered by the English during the Anglo-Boer War, Johanna Brandt (being Dutch / part of the Boers) served as a nurse. As such she organised women to spy on British officers, which information served the Boers in the guerilla that took place at that moment.
